Refinishing Wooden radio cabinet

Having antique items must be very fun since it is a precious and scarce item. One of the antique items some people like to have is wooden radio cabinet. But as wooden radio cabinet is starting to be an antique item, it is also becoming old and losing the appeal because it is no longer new. To make your rare wooden radio cabinet still can be even more precious you need to do some refinishing to preserve the original wood or the wood veneer. But if some of you still do not know whether you wooden radio cabinet is the solid wood one or the wood veneer one, you should consult first to an antique dealer so you will not destruct the value of the wooden radio cabinet.

Refinishing for Wood Veneer
If the wooden radio cabinet is wood veneer then you can clean the veneer with small amount of oil soap on a rag. Do not try to sand it or it will break. You also can use wood glue to reattach any loose pieces. And since it is an antique item, some people may only value it if it has the exact appearance of the original, so you have to take the wooden radio cabinet to the hardware store to find the wood stain that match closely to the used one. Then apply small amount of the stain on a cloth and rubbing into the veneer in the same direction as the wood grain to re stain the veneer.

Refinishing for Solid Wood
For the wooden radio cabinet with solid wood, you can start applying protective tape over hardware, tuning knobs and any exposed metal areas to refinish the wooden radio cabinet. Then you should apply the paint thinner with brush across the wooden surfaces in even strokes. Also rub off the wooden radio cabinet old finish as much as possible with old rags. Sand the wood gently with fine grit sandpaper, it will also be able to remove any remaining finish and roughening the wood surface for better adherence. After that refinish the wooden radio cabinet with stain color you choose with brush and apply it in the same direction as the wood grain.
